In recent years 3D stellar atmosphere models computed with the CO5BOLD code have been applied to determine the abundance of oxygen in cool stars — the Sun and metal-poor stars as prime examples. I will report on present modeling developments and application works in the CO5BOLD group. The intention is to shed some light on systematic uncertainties when it comes to determine the oxygen abundance in cool stellar atmospheres.
